Quiz 1: modes
due in class Thursday, Feb. 21Be able to play the following at the piano:
- All diatonic (Church) modes, starting on any note. Examples: F# Dorian, G Locrian.
- The standard major and minor pentatonic scales (but not the other three modes), starting on any note. Examples: C minor pentatonic, Ab major pentatonic.
- The whole-tone scale, starting on any note.
- The octatonic scale (WH) starting on any note.
- The Acoustic (Lydian-Mixolydian) scale, starting on any note. (Only this one mode, not the other six modes of this scale.)
One octave, ascending only, in single notes (one hand is fine).
Tempo minimum (in quarter notes) of q = 52.
Extra credit: Play “modal” triads (i.e. all notes belonging to the mode) going up the scale for at least two different modes
