David Feurzeig

Short Songs for flute, viola, and harp

These Short Songs are nostalgic in spirit and in musical style, looking back to the Impressionist roots of the harp trio with just a subtle hint of post-modernism (which sounds like an oxymoron). They are dedicated to Stephen Taylor and the Illinois Modern Ensemble.

I. Barcarolle (Gondola Song)

The still water mirrors the sky
A breeze splinters the world into a thousand glinting shards.
Above, in my boat, I remain.
--from the Italian

II. The Impassioned Hand (Signing Song)

No matter they can’t read her gestures.
They want what I want. To listen anyway.
--from The Husband’s Tale by David Huddle

III. Libe-Lid (Love Song)

Last night I went to a wedding
Many beautiful girls I saw there.
But none to compare to you, your black eyes, your black hair.
--traditional Yiddish
