Using Sibelius
We will be using the notation software Sibelius. You may use it:1. in the Music Technology Lab (Southwick 200D)
Tech Lab Hours & Access info
2. on your own computer
There are two options:
- the full-featured version, Sibelius Ultimate, which is free for a 30-day trial.
- the stripped-down version, Sibelius First which is permanently free.
NOTE: You will need the full-featured Sibelius Ultimate version for our assignments.
When you first open the program, be sure to select the Ultimate 30-Day Trial. (The licensing software is confusing and makes it difficult to switch back and forth between the trial version and the permanently free version.)
After the 30-day trial you can downgrade to the free version, Sibelius First, or purchase a subscription or license to continue using the full version.
If you decide to purchase/subscribe, be sure to get the educational discount!
If you have trouble getting Sibelius to activate, try following these directions.
version issues
If you download the program, then want to bring a file you've begun at home to work on in the Music Technology Lab, you must first back-save it via
File Tab > Export > Previous Version > Sibelius 8.0Note that you cannot access the back-save feature via the perhaps more intuitive
File menu > Save As...
