Even decent headphones and micro speakers may not actually sound low frequencies, although you may still perceive low tones through a bizarre illusion caused by your brain processing the upper partials and positing the lower fundamental.
Lower-fidelity ear buds and the tiny speakers on mobile devices are not sufficient.
Use the best equipment you can, ideally medium- to full-size speakers, to clarify the lower sounds.
