Assignment 19
Read
S2S, pp. 332-343Be sure you are reading from chapter 9b, not chapter 9a.
You may not fully understand section 9.2, “Determining the Intervals...”, because we have not finished our introduction to intervals. Don’t worry if this section is not fully clear.
Remember, the Audio Page has recordings of all the focus tunes referred to in the text.
Here is my 2-page handout on minor scales.
Write
Do the following exercises on pp. 359-363:
- exx. 9.1 & 9.2, complete;
- ex. 9.4: the first five keys (A minor through C# minor), then skip and do D minor through F minor.
In ex. 9.4 write all the requested information (scale degree numbers, solfege, half steps). You can make this more mindful, not mere manual busywork, by singing the scale to the solfege syllables and scale degree numbers as you write them.
Notate your accidentals neatly and precisely and not too small. Write them as you go, left to right, not after you’ve written in the noteheads—contrary to some of the directions in the book.
