Assignment 16
1. More thirds ear-training on teoría
Practice until you get at least 9/10 correct, then save your results:
Harmonic thirds: identify each interval as a M3 or m3
Scoring (10 pts possible): 100 = 10; 90-99 = 9; 80-89 = 7; 70-79 = 4; <70 = 0
2. Read
Read S2S, pp. 387-390. The reading includes a reference to minor scales, which we haven’t covered yet; don't worry if you don’t understand that bit.
3. Major and minor triads on teoría
Constructing and recognizing root-position M/m triads in notation
Skill 1 Construct 10 M/m triads from a given note; 30 seconds each; treble clef; score 90 or higher.Skill 2 Construct 10 M/m triads from a given note; 30 seconds each; bass clef; score 90 or higher.
Skill 3 Identify 10 M/m triads; 25 seconds each; treble clef; score 90 or higher.
Skill 4 Identify 10 M/m triads; 25 seconds each; bass clef; score 90 or higher.
Note: please do not save practice results, only your most successful efforts.
4. Recorder
Review the notes G, A, B, C, and D as needed (C5 and D5); see fingering chart below. Add low D (D4). Then practice the following tunes until fluent at a steady tempo. Pratice just a few minutes every day between now and Monday. This is much more effective than practicing for an hour on one day, say.
- “Frere Jacques” starting on G.
- “Twinkle Twinkle” starting on G.
Please bring your recorder to class on Monday.
